Slicer

The Slicer, also known as a net runner, is an expert at finding, stealing and using information. Mastering computer systems, an Slicer is just as deadly with a datapad as a Soldier is with a rifle. The Slicer is also a master of scanners, and knows how to get the most out of the scanning systems on a starship.

The Slicer specializes in the Technician and Sensors roles, and has a lot of abilities involving Droids and Computer Systems. They are more of a specialist than a Generalist.

Knowledge: Slicing

Slicing provides a benefit to a Slicing Run Encounter. The player rolls their Intelligence + Slicing, and each Hit reveals 1 Question Token, with Critical Hits allowing them to claim 1 Node.

Slicing is rolled when presented with a Firewall-Prompt, with each Hit revealing 1 (unique) letter of the password. Critical Hits put the letter into the correct spot.

Each point of Slicing also adds +1 to the damage of all Proxies.

Hit Points

The Slicer gains 1 Hit Point per level.

Slicer Specialities

Slicer Proxies

The Slicer has access to several "Proxies" that they can use to attempt to breach a security system.

  1. Envy: The Envy Proxy can use abilities from ECMs it encounters.
  2. Gluttony: The Gluttony Proxy manipulates Software and its costs.
  3. Greed: The Greed Proxy steals Data more easily.
  4. Lust: The Lust Proxy can charm ECMs or drain their health.
  5. Pride: The Pride Proxy is stronger at full HP and gains power from defeating Firewalls.
  6. Sloth: The Sloth Proxy can generate Compute easier, avoid Traces and heal easier.
  7. Wrath: The Wrath Proxy is the best at defeating ECMs, gaining criticals, extra attacks and healing when it defeats an ECM.
Slicer Software
  1. Trojan: A program with another program embedded in it; a Droid-brain or computer is less likely to notice a Trojan. When run this program grants the Proxy "Stealth" for 1 Round
  2. Exploit: A program that exploits (or creates) a known weakness to gain elevated access. When run this program allows the Slicer to open or close any Gate.
  3. Virus: A program that attempts to replicate itself and consume resources, this weakens an infected Droid brain or D-computer. When run the Virus will infect a Compute Node. If an ECM moves over a Compute Node to reclaim it for the System, it will also be infected…
  4. Relay: A program that increases the number of Links that the Slicer has each time it is executed.
  5. Trigger: A program which takes effect at a precise time or when a specific event has occurred. This must be linked with another Software Program to be effective.
  6. Scanner: A program which scans all available interfaces on this system for information, can return information on potential Exploit paths, other users connected to the system, any public data and any unrestricted systems.
  7. Utility: A simple program that executes a function that the computer system under attack can normally execute, such as opening a door, enabling or disabling a security system, operating an automated turret, or setting a ship owner's record…
  8. Rezzer: A program which restores Hit Points to a Proxy, 2 Hit Points per 1 Compute.
